SEND

Special Educational Needs and Disability Information

The Windmills Junior School is committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, supported, and able to achieve their full potential. We recognise that children learn in different ways and may need additional support at various points in their school journey.

Our SEND provision is designed to provide inclusive, high-quality teaching and tailored support for pupils with a range of needs. These may include difficulties with communication and interaction, cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health, or sensory and physical needs.

We work closely with parents and carers, valuing their knowledge and involvement, and we encourage open communication at every stage.

We collaborate with external professionals where needed to ensure each child receives the right support.

We aim to help all children develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

Who to contact

You can contact our Inclusion Manager Ellie Farmer (maternity cover), via the school office on 01273 842421 or by emailing office@windmills.w-sussex.sch.uk.

Information and courses for parents

The Windmills is a member of the Meeds SEND Alliance - a partnership between agencies that support children and young people with SEND living in the Hassocks and Burgess Hill locality.  They run a range of courses designed to help parents support their children's needs.  Through the Alliance there is also a Parent/Carer Forum offering advice on a range of subjects from professional and other parents.

Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP)

OAIP refers to the support, adaptations, and inclusive teaching strategies that every mainstream school is expected to provide for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), without requiring an EHCP.

OAIP is part of high-quality teaching and describes what should be routinely in place within the classroom and whole-school practice to ensure every child can access the curriculum effectively.  Adjustments and strategies we can put in place are set out here by subject.  These have been created by SENCOs in the local area.
