Mental Health and Wellbeing
Welcome to our Mental Health and Wellbeing Resources page.
We believe that every child’s emotional wellbeing is just as important as their academic success. Primary school is a time of growth, discovery, and change, and we are committed to supporting our pupils as they develop confidence, resilience, and a positive sense of self.
This page has been created to signpost families to helpful information and guidance. Whether your child is experiencing worries, big emotions, or simply needs a little extra support, you will find a range of resources here to help you navigate these challenges together.
We recognise that supporting a child’s wellbeing is a partnership between school and home. If you have any concerns about your child’s mental health or wellbeing, please speak to your child's teacher in the first instance.
Our Learning Mentor (Karen Drew)
Learning Mentors offer support and guidance to children who are struggling with social, emotional and behavioural challenges that impact on their ability to learn and make the most of school life. These can include mental health challenges, illness, bereavement and grief, divorce and separation, relationship difficulties and low self-esteem. For the child they are an advocate for them, someone supportive and non-judgmental to talk to, share successes or disappointments with, and who can help practically manage difficulties or worries. For the parent or carer they can be the link between school and home.
Karen has been the Learning Mentor at The Windmills Junior School for the past 15 years. She works with children on a one-to-one basis, outside the classroom and am available either during times of crisis or as part of a longer term programme. Karen will implement a tailored and flexible approach that takes into consideration the full circumstances of the child and their individual needs.
If you think your child could benefit from the guidance of a Learning Mentor, or if you have any questions about the support we provide, then please email the school office: office@windmills.w-sussex.sch.uk
