Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional money given to state-funded schools to help close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. Research has shown that children from disadvantaged backgrounds often face barriers to learning, such as:

  • Lower household income
  • Limited access to educational resources
  • Social or emotional challenges

The Pupil Premium aims to reduce these inequalities.

We receive Pupil Premium funding for pupils who:

  • Are eligible for free school meals (FSM) now or in the past 6 years
  • Are looked-after children (in care) or previously in care
  • Have parents in the armed forces

At The Windmills Junior School we are committed to ensuring that Pupil Premium funding is used to:

  • Narrow or close the gap between the achievement of the identified pupils and their peers
  • Raise pupil attainment through the provision of a variety of educational support programmes
  • Address underlying inequalities between the identified pupils and their peers with regard to pupil well-being, as well as academic development.

Every year, we produce a Pupil Premium Action Plan which outlines in full the spending priorities for the year ahead. This follows a review of the spending from the previous year to ensure that the work we are doing is having an impact, and that we are spending this money appropriately.
