Full-time Individual Needs Assistant
The Windmills Junior School is seeking to appoint an Individual Needs Assistant for a specific year 3 child with special needs. We are a happy, caring Junior School with more than 360 children on roll. We are looking for a warm, dynamic and flexible individual to join our team. This role is crucial in supporting this individual to succeed in their learning. The individual will need to have experience of working with children and be able to listen to them and work out how best to support them by developing a relationship based on trust and respect. Good English and maths skills are essential to be able to break down the learning into small achievable steps for the child. The job will involve working closely with, and supporting an individual child with an Education and Health Care plan, helping them to succeed independently within a classroom setting. The child has ASC, and has some anxiety around separation and being in the classroom environment. Recent experience in a primary school and working with children with specific needs is desirable. The post will involve day-to-day support to develop the child’s confidence, self-esteem and trust.
Salary: Grade 3 - Point 3, which is an annual salary of £18,065 pro rata – actual salary £11,661 due to this being a term time only position
Days: The post is 5 days a week - working 9am to 3:15pm - 28.75 hours per week
The job is temporary for the remainder of this academic year. This could be extended beyond this depending on budget and funding.
The successful candidate will:
· have a passion for working with children
· be patient and able to stay calm and listen to and value the children
· be able to build positive relationships with those that they work closely with
· have an optimistic and positive attitude and be flexible to the demands of the job
· be suitably qualified for the post of teaching assistant i.e. have a good literacy and numeracy skills (to GCSE level or higher)
· be able to work as part of a team, and
· have the ability to maintain confidentiality
· put children first and work to keep all children safe
