Our Reading curriculum is based around the following:
- To instil a book culture across the school and a lifelong love of reading.
- To provide learners with high-quality, carefully chosen texts from a range of authors, cultures, themes and genres, in turn broadening their horizons.
- For children to find their identity as a reader by responding to a range of literature and offering a personal response to these texts.
- To enable children to decode and comprehend age-appropriate texts, and to equip them with the skills to actively engage in reading across the curriculum.
- Where fluency is an issue, children will be supported in catching up as quickly as possible to ensure that reading is not a barrier to accessing the wider curriculum or being secondary-ready.
Our Writing curriculum is based around the following:
- A rich reading curriculum underpins the writing planning in every year group. This strong selection of high-quality texts will help to fuel children’s imagination, vocabulary choices and secure application of grammar in their writing, inspiring ambition and achievement.
- Children will be able to express their thoughts and ideas confidently, clearly and creatively through the written word, and will learn to adapt their writing to suit the purpose and audience of a given piece.
- Children will find their identity as a writer by being given the opportunity to explore and play with their writing, in turn developing their authorial intent.
